0:52.0	That is the case of Eric and Laman Menendez and the murder of their parents, Jose and Kitty.
0:57.0	And there's still so much to talk about. I know that Laura and Jim and I, we've been just saturating ourselves in the case, including Robert Rans, incredible book.
1:08.0	He's been a journalist who's been following their case for 33 years and he's got really amazing primary source material in his book.
1:17.0	But Jim and Laura, I got to throw something at you.
1:20.0	Try not to hurt us.
1:22.0	I'm going to try. I really, I've really been like dreaming about this case. I hate to say that.
1:28.0	And I know, and I have a little kind of dime store detective, my own profile.
1:34.0	And I wanted to share it with you and I want to get your reaction and tell me that I'm totally crazy.
1:39.0	And this is a very divisive case. It's complicated. It's nuanced.
1:43.0	But I think Jose Menendez reaped what he sowed. And what I mean by that is he created his own assassins and his own perfect storm for an assassination.
1:53.0	I think that he was a psychopath who tried to raise his sons to be sociopaths and they very nearly rose to it.
2:00.0	He tried to kill empathy in them. He traumatized them not to cry, not to be weak, not to have normal feelings.
2:06.0	He sexually abused them and his son, Lyle, modeled that behavior by also abusing his younger brother, Eric, Jose pushed them to be bullies, to be cruel to each other.
2:17.0	He indoctrinated them to feel supremely entitled and better than everyone else.
2:22.0	Yet at the same time, perversely made them feel like they weren't good enough.
