discuss the loss of a friend and

colleague Todd Matthews he was an absolute revolutionary figure in Citizen sloothing and in this

episode that we're going to play today,

this is actually from 2017.

It was one of the first episodes of Crawl Space we ever did.

And we speak with Todd about his achievements in helping to identify the Jane Doe known as

Tent Girl and give her her name back which was Barbara Ann Hackman Taylor. And you know that statement with a heavy heart we have to

deliver news and that gets overused occasionally and but it's true here.

I mean, when you had sent that message that he had passed,

I mean, it was like stunning.

We met him for the first time in person at CrimeCon, I believe that was CrimeCon Las Vegas, and he was just a ball of energy.

He was just this character, while not huge in like physical stature like when he walked into the room you could feel him you know you could feel his presence and he just came right over to us and with his you know with his Tennessee accent just started talking to us like we had been old friends and then

it really is like when you said he passed he was a friend he was a very good friend and one of the first guests that we ever like reached out to on Crawl Space and we were like very surprised that he was willing to come on the show because you're talking about the guy who

was the executive director of the Doe Network and you know Namus that's that's him

and the original web sleuth before the internet was huge and he managed to do

something for a family that now we all are striving to do as well. So whether we knew it or not, he was the one that

put this ball in motion. And yeah, it is truly a loss and it is, you know very very much a heavy heart hearing this story that

Todd Matthews passed away yeah he was 53 he died on January 3rd, 2024, unexpectedly and our thoughts go out to his family and as

far as this community goes, Lance, his impact is so far reaching that it's actually

almost incalculable because he did help to develop the database known as Namus.

And that organization's goal is really to match
