Hello, hello, this is Fake the Nation, where we talk about news, we talk about culture,

and where we thank the Iranians for the Christmas tree.

I'm your host, Nagin Farsad, and about 17 times every December,

I tell people that the origin of the Christmas tree is hundreds of years ago when Persians used to celebrate the winter solstice.

We still do. It's called Shaba Yalda.

Yalda is December 21st. It's the longest night of the year.

And what Persians did back in the day was they would celebrate around an evergreen cedar tree that they would decorate and they would bring food and gifts and dance and be merry.

Now, hundreds of years later, Germany and the Balkan states picked up the tree decorating schick from the Iranians, you guys. And that's how Christmas

then came. The Christmas tree then came to America. So when you are gathered around your

Christmas tree, you're like doing the most Iranian thing you could possibly do. So, I don't know.

It's not a big deal.

It's just that everyone in America right now is an honorary Iranian.

Someone tell Trump, I'm sure he loves that.

I have no other arboreal history to share with you.

So instead, this week, we'll talk about the spy world and how Gen Z

are terrible spies. We'll also talk about how men joining the care economy could be better for

everyone. And finally, we share our cultural picks of the year. Today, by the way, we're taping

before we normally tape. So if you're expecting a very, very timely episode, we're about a week off from being timely.
