Hi, this is Jen Rubin, and this is Jen Rubin's Green Room.

We live in a world of lies, of social media scams,

of disinformation. We're facing an election with one political party that really has adopted

the tactics of strong men and fascists around the world, which is to bamboozle

the public to prey on emotionalism, to stir violence.

And it's really a great challenge.

This is not how American politics has always been, and it doesn't need to be this way, but we are where we are.

And under the general rubric of disinformation, huge damage has been done to our country.

We remember back in 2016, the Russians were using disinformation to pump up Donald Trump and to disparage Hillary Clinton.

In 2020, Donald Trump came up with the biggest lie of them all, the big lie, which was that

the election had been stolen. And he used that lie to stir millions of people to anger and thousands of people

to storm the capital in the only attempted coup we've had and the only real failure to pass

from one administration to the next without violence. So how does this disinformation take hold? Some of the lies seem so absurd

on their face. Really? The election was stolen, something about Chinese bamboo in the ballots in

Arizona. That doesn't make any sense. How is it that people get so discombobulated and so

willing to unlearn lies that they have imbibed? How is it that we live in an era in which it
