Some murder cases are wrapped up within days. The killer is caught and the victim's family can have some closure, knowing justice has been brought at least to some extent. In other cases, the investigation drags on so long it adds to the tragedy.

This was the case with 14-year-old Alice Cross, who was found brutally murdered in West London,
