the Important Cinema Club. And today, we're talking about Adam Sandler. You know, in the movie

Chinatown, Jack Nicholson says to John Houston that he's respectable. And John Houston replies, and I quote, of course I'm respectable.

I'm old.

Politicians, ugly buildings, and horrors all get respectable if they last long enough.

Now, I would like to say that and also make note of a recent softening in the critical response to Adam Sandler's films.

A hated figure by critics. When we were growing up in the critical response to Adam Sandler's films. A hated figure by critics.

When we were growing up in the 90s, the 2000s, all the way into the mid-2010s,

Adam Sandler, among like movie critics, was public enemy number one.

And in more recent years, I think he's fully ascended to the status of like living legend.

He's a beloved figure.

Even people who don't like the movies.

Can appreciate him.

Yeah.

You know, I saw Adam Naiman tweet recently on Twitter.

It's not called Twitter anymore.

They're not called tweets anymore.

But he said, watched the S&L 50th anniversary special.

It's amazing how much gravitas Sandler has accrued at this point. Got me wondering if Sandler has turned out to be the actual best movie actor who is also ever a full-time cast member. It's in play, at least. So I'd like to just raise that as a possibility. Yes. Because you're probably thinking. Undoubtedly. Well, because the other names who you might think of are, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy. Eddie Murphy, yes. Those are the other three contenders. That's a good question. What's Eddie Murphy done for you lately? Nothing. Yeah. And he hasn't done anything for me lately in a long time. What's Bill Murray done for you lately? Nothing. When he's doing a lot of things, that he's done his entire career, but... And Dan Aykroyd, uh, Crystal Skull V done for you lately? Nothing when he's doing a lot of things that he's done his entire career.

And Dan Aykroyd, Crystal Skull Vodka, you know, is putting me to sleep at night. Now, who do I love more? Definitely Dan Aykroyd. Who's made me laugh more? Accroyd. And number one, Chevy Chase. Yeah, Chevy Chase. The God. But no, Adam Sandler, I also, I didn't particularly grow up with Adam Sandler, although I say

that.

He was everywhere when you grew up.
