Davy, Davy, get over here, come here. And I go over and he's at the merch table. He's still setting up.

But there's a girl there, a girl who was leaving the earlier show, and she's buying one of everything.

She's buying a found magazine, my book,

The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas. I'm trying to understand it. She's not even there for our event.

I sort of been piecing this together. She's leaving this other thing, but she just sees the table

and starts, like, that stuff's cool. Wow, that is really sweet. It sounds like a beautiful beginning.

I had an instant crush on her.

You know, you have that instant attraction, and I was like,

this is the most beautiful person I've ever seen in my life.

Like, not just her physical beauty, but her curiosity and energy.

You know, her openness to, like, being down to stay for some event she had never heard before.

Okay, so what could go wrong? I guess I came to realize that she had a pretty serious boyfriend.

And so, you know, as friendly and as wonderful as she'd been, you know,

her ability to really leap into anything was obviously limited.

Oh, that's tricky.
