Our Amsterdam adventure next took us to a quiet industrial block in the northern

borough of Amsterdam Nord, which is sometimes called the Brooklyn of Amsterdam

because of its repurposed industrial architecture and its vibrant

restaurant scene. The area was heavily transformed by industry in the 19th

century and in 1943 an aircraft factory here was destroyed in air raids

during World War II. So we were stunned when we walked into a mysterious workshop called Artitek, where we found a

battalion of military trucks, tanks, motorcycles, sea vessels, even bulldozers, but all in miniature.

This was a workshop for the design and production of scale models, but we were there to see one model in particular.
