So you've probably noticed, if you've been in the clinical setting for any amount of time,

that there are two very similar-sounding lab tests that are part of your coagulation studies,

the PTT and the A-PTT. Are they the same? Are they different? Let's take a quick look.

So the PTT and A PTT are tests that look at the intrinsic pathway of clot formation. Specifically,

it's looking at blood clotting factors such as fibrinogen and thrombin as well as factors five

and then factors eight through 12 so when any of these are deficient such as in hemophilia a or b
