This week, as we kick off a brand new season, we're going to pack our bags

and head to the West Coast, Sunny Hollywood, and the swinging hot spot for about 30 years there,

the Garden of Allah. Nick would have seen the Garden of Allah on his adventure with Aunt Harriet

in that golden trip to Hollywood in the mid-1930s.

The Garden of Alla was already hopping in the 19-teens and the 1920s, but only as a private

residence. It gets even more popular when it opens in 1927 as a boutique hotel. But by the time our man Nick lands in Hollywood in the late

50s, the Chateau Marmont is taking over as the Garden of Alla was demolished in 1959 to make

room for a strip mall. But for 30 years, the Garden of Alla is where the action was. And its place in the

scene is crucial, I think, to gaining an understanding of at least how this community works in

Hollywood, especially in the land of the West Coast. At this time, there are going to be tremendous changes to the industry.
