I'm going to visit with you today about giving thanks in

four all things. So Ephesians 5.20 says, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father

in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And then in 1 Thessalonians 5.18,

in everything give thanks for this is a will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Now, not all Christians think we should thank God for all things,

because that would mean thanking Him for sickness or for failure,

for disappointment, for affliction, but how would it be any different really if we were to thank

Him in all things as opposed to for all things. If your child is sick for an example and you're

up in the night with Him, what does it mean to thank Him in all circumstances? Well, that means

you're rejoicing in the Lord while cleaning up the vomit or thanking Him for His good governance

of the world, including this late night trouble. And yet, how is that different than thanking Him for

the sickness? But there's something about it that we bristle at a little bit, the idea of giving

thanks for everything. You mean, thank you, Lord, that my child is sick? Well, yes, Ephesians 5.20 says,
