Hello and welcome to episode 43 of Geek's Guide to the Galaxy.

Hi, this is John Joseph Adams. I'm the editor of Lightspeed and Fantasy magazine and I'm also the editor of several anthologies.

I have several coming out next year, including Under the moons of Mars, which feature stories

inspired by the Barsoom Saga by Edgar Rice Burrows, armored, which is about powered armored

soldiers and Mecca, and the Mad Scientist's

Guide to World Domination, which is about Mad Scientists and Evil Geniuses trying to take over

the world.

The next book I have coming out, which comes out in November, is Light Speed Year

One, which collects all the fiction published in the first year of Lightspeed magazine.

And I'm David Barr Hurley.

I'm the author of many short stories, including The Disciple, about a student who studies Black Magic at a New England university.

The story originally appeared in Weird Tales magazine, and will be appearing later this year in the anthology New Kathulu,

which collects some of the best love-craftian fiction of the past decade, including stories by Neil Gaiman,

Sherry Priest, and China Meeville. And speaking of China Meaville, he's our guest today.

He's an award-winning English fantasy fiction writer who describes his work as weird fiction after early 20th century pulp and horror writers such as H.P. Lovecraft, and who belongs to a loose group of writers sometimes called New Weird. He's also active in left-wing politics as a member of the Socialist Workers Party.

He stood for the House of Commons for the Socialist Alliance and published his PhD thesis as a book on Marxism and international law. He teaches

creative writing at work university. All right well let's get to our interview.
