Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. I recently attended a seminar on

0:09.8

mindfulness or meditation. It was really well done. It was about three hours long.

0:14.8

And the presenter was this jovial, very happy man who was about 85 years old.

0:20.1

That's right, 85 years old and still traveling around the world giving seminars on a regular

0:26.1

basis.

0:27.1

Well, about halfway through the seminar, one of the other people that was there asked him if he put

0:31.6

in his 10,000 steps that day. What they meant was they

1:21.6

of Reading found that eating fruits and

1:23.9

vegetables and exercise can increase our levels of happiness. In other words when we

1:29.6

eat more fruits and vegetables and exercise more regularly we're happier.

1:34.4

Of course, in order to exercise and eat these fruits and vegetables,

1:37.4

we have to be good at delayed gratification and self-control,

1:41.8

because it plays a major role in lifestyle choices.

1:45.4

I mean given all the choices that we have in life this makes sense after all

1:50.8

it would be easy to go to the store and buy something sweet or something

1:55.0

delicious that may immediately gratify our senses. But in the long run not be very good
