πŸ“œ TODAY'S SCRIPTURE: Psalm 16

Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    I have no good apart from you.”

As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones,
    in whom is all my delight.[b]

The sorrows of those who run after[c] another god shall multiply;
    their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out
    or take their names on my lips.

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;
    you hold my lot.
The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
    in the night also my heart instructs me.[d]
I have set the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being[e]rejoices;
    my flesh also dwells secure.
10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol,
    or let your holy one see corruption.[f]

11 You make known to me the path of life;
    in your presence there is fullness of joy;
    at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Hello there my friends welcome back to the morning mindset my name is Carrie Green. I am

0:09.0

here to encourage you this morning that you can live this day in the light of God's truth and you start

0:17.6

that process by setting your mind in the right place setting your mind on truth, on God's truth. Today we're going to

0:26.1

dig into some of the details of Psalm chapter 16, which I read kind of in a

0:31.6

general since yesterday and spoke about.

0:34.0

But there are some powerful things here in this particular passage that I want us to dig into a little bit.

0:41.0

Because it is so important for us to ground ourselves in the truth of

0:46.7

who our God is. There was a writer, pastor, and theologian years ago named a W tozer and a a W tozer and

0:54.0

A W Tozer said, what you believe about God is the most important thing about you. Stop and let those words sink in for a moment.

1:06.0

What you believe about God is the most important thing about you.

1:12.0

I bring that up because this passage reflects a man

1:17.0

David who believed some very clear and very certain things about his God. And we, if we're going to be like David

1:26.7

and have the kind of security and joy and zeal that he had in life, need to do the same. We need to get our minds right about our

1:35.8

God. Who is he? What is he like? What are the benefits that come from

1:40.1

following him? What is the confidence we can have? Because he is our God.

1:47.0

Now David says the Lord is his chosen portion and his cup.

1:54.2

Now he's using some phraseology there that's a little foreign to us because it's dated.

1:59.2

It's language that's particular to his culture that he lived in. Now when he says God is his chosen portion and his cup he's

2:09.4

talking about something similar to an inheritance.

2:13.6

You see each child would receive a portion of their father's goods and their father's

2:19.0

means as the father passed on the inheritance. And he's saying in this case,

2:23.7

the Lord is my chosen portion.
