As y'all will recall, with last week's show,

we talked about Braxton Bragg's decision to send James Long Street up to Knoxville

to have a go at Ambrose Burnside.

And on the federal side, Ulysses S. Grant welcomed his buddy,

William to come to Sherman to Chattanooga.

Although Sherman's troops were still marching towards Chattanooga,

we talked about how Grant was nevertheless more than glad to see Sherman himself,

since he was a subordinate whom Grant trusted and who trusted him.

Grant knew Sherman was a general who found ways to get things done,

rather than reasons they couldn't be done, which is probably one reason they got along so well,
