Sports has a long history of being the first place that creates social change,

especially when it involves black Americans.

Jesse Owens dominating the Olympics in Germany

in front of Hitler, Jackie Robinson being the first player

in Major League Baseball, at the 1968 Olympics,

gold medalist Tommy Smith, John Carlos, and raising their fists in protest for

black power and also Peter Norman of Australia in third place honoring them as well.

And then of course, Gabby Douglas, that's all we need to say.

This is episode 427 for June 3rd, 2020.

This would have been the first week of US nationals, but we are in the midst of something, in my opinion, that's much more important.

And it is another wave of the civil rights continuation of the civil rights movement and Black Lives

Matter and we are in the sixth day, seventh day of protests around the world.

And so I want to introduce you to Alexis Brown,

who is a UC Davis gymnast,

and she's a program record holder,

and she knelt during the National Anthem during the 2017 NCAA season.

We've really appreciate it. Thank you for everything you've done for

this movement. It's been a couple years since you started kneeling. What are your

general feelings about kneeling now?
