Summary

424: Mike Pile’s bio says that he’s been playing golf for over 35 years and enjoying it for maybe about 12 minutes. Like every mid-handicapper he's tried everything to get better; lessons, practice, advice, new equipment, tips, etc. but they never generated sustainable low scores because it is nearly impossible to play enough to put them into practice. Until now that is. In part 1 of 2 we meet Mike and discus his great little book, “Keep Your Swing. Lower Your Score.” which offers simple, practical advice about the management and perspective of your game that will improve your golf game without having to practice, quit your job, ignore your family or get divorced. If you have a mid-handicap index and are someone who loves golf and really wants to improve, this book may very well help you achieve sustainable lower scores hole by hole, round to round. Mike’s book delivers practical advice that you can implement today, tomorrow and forever. There is nothing offered that cannot be sustained by the average handicapper who is lucky to play once a week. Keep Your Swing Lower Your Score will improve your game without requiring you to change your swing, take lessons or commit hours of time which most of us simply do not have.http://GolfForGuys.com The book is available in our Golfers’Mart at GolfSmarter.com.For exclusive content and first access check out Corrected Mistakes on Substack: https://substack.com/@correctedmistake  Learn more about your ad choices. I like the Man Cave. With a nice little view, you seem distracted. Hopefully I'll be able to keep you focused on me in the conversation. But, yeah, it is hard. There's a golf course right here. You've got your magnolias blooming. We've got some people striping it down. What's that, the 12th Fairway out there? Yeah, 12 and 13. We're in country club. Yeah. Yeah. Talked about it before. We'll talk about it again. Anyway, let's talk about your stuff. You have this adorable little book that looks like a score book, right? Yeah, yardage book. It looks like a yardage book called Keep Your Swing, Lower Your Score.

1:13.4

Now, if that's not a recipe for everybody's got to have this, nothing is. So what made you do this?

1:22.7

Well, Fred, it was, you know what? It was really enlightened self-interest i i really and truly love the game

1:31.9

of golf and and and you are bombarded and assaulted with all kinds of tips and tricks and lessons

1:38.3

on trying to improve and i when i've got to be able to distill this this this onslaught of information into

1:46.0

you know one two three or even four or five or six very very simple things that you can do

1:53.0

shot to shot round around um season to season to improve and so I thought if I told myself I could

2:00.0

write down these simple things that it would help me to improve. And so I thought if I told myself, I could write down these simple things

2:01.8

that it would help me to improve my game. And so that's what I set out to do. And as I was

2:07.4

writing them down, I said, gee, maybe other people could benefit from this as well. So the genesis

2:12.2

of this was something for yourself. You wanted to make this work because you had these ideas

2:17.2

of things you needed to remember.

2:18.8

Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. I see. And at what point did you share it with somebody? And they went,

2:25.8

oh, I want a copy of this. How did that? Or you just thought, I'm just going to. I, I, I, there's two

2:31.5

things I love. I love writing and I love the game of golf. And as I was writing these, I'm hesitant to call them tips, but more of these approaches to the game as I was writing them down and they started to expand. I started to evolve a little bit more about, geez, here's sort of my attitude, not just about playing golf, but about the state of the game and the game of golf in general and it just sort of evolved and expanded from there and i went boy maybe there's a book here and so the more i wrote the more i got into it the more i realized that hey there's a although it, although it is small, it is useful, and there's
