As you guys will recall by the end of the last episode, it was the afternoon of Wednesday,

October 14th, 1863, and Confederate General AP Hill had hurriedly deployed Harry Heath's

division near Bristol Station, Virginia in order to launch a quick strike across Broadrun

An attack what Hill mistakenly believed was withdrawing elements of the Federal Third

Corps.

Bianchi's pulling back from Broadrun were in fact the tail end of Psych's Fifth Corps.

However, that mistake of Hill's paled in comparison to his blunder and not adequately

scouting the area.

As we said last time, earlier on the 14th, the Confederate cavalry that had been screening

the advance of Hill's corps had clashed with some federal horsemen, which resulted in

the rebel cavalry being drawn off in a series of running fights with those Yankees.

And so, as AP Hill's infantry continued their march, there were no longer any rebel

horsemen to scout ahead and to provide information on the enemy, such as the fact it was

federal's from the fifth corps that were there across Broadrun, not men from the third
