0:10.8	And today, we are discussing filmmaker Idrisa Uedrago.

0:15.9	We're traveling to Burkina Faso, I think, for the first time in this podcast history.
0:20.3	Oh, yeah, we'll have to check the record to make sure we haven't visited there before. We've been to Senegal, but we are talking about Idrisa O'Drago, and this is a filmmaker who for years, well, I'd never seen his work, and I heard about him for the first time because, you know, and all the criteria in Charlie Chaplin releases, they all have a documentary
0:38.7	that come with them called like Chaplin Today Modern Times, Chaplin Today, the Gold Rush.
0:44.1	And all of those documentaries interview a notable international filmmaker. Bertolucci is talking
0:49.3	about limelight, the Dardens are talking about modern times. Well, the gold rush was a filmmaker named
0:55.0	Idrisa Udrago, who I'd never heard of before. There are some scenes of people in the village where
1:00.1	he lived, you know, many children watching the gold rush and loving it. I'd always filed him away
1:04.7	in my head of, oh, I got to find out who this guy is. And now here we are. I don't think I had
1:09.6	heard anyone discuss him or write about him before.
1:13.4	And I think, like, looking at his filmography, he had one moment in the late 80s, early 90s,
1:20.4	where people were like, this is our guy. And then after that, they're like, no, thank you.
1:24.0	Go somewhere else. We're not interested anymore. And this happens sometimes. And it happens from filmmakers from specific countries.
1:30.1	We did an episode on Vivek Luckberg from Norway, who had a similar trajectory.
1:35.5	I think Elias Suleiman of Palestine also had a similar trajectory where they have this moment
1:40.8	where they bubble up to consciousness and they get, they of a festival, darling, for a little while.
1:46.0	And then they have one flop, two flops, I don't know.
1:49.0	And then you never hear from them again unfairly.
1:52.1	Like I was reading online in that his movies were playing in multiplexes in Vancouver.
