poots and... Hello friends and welcome back to the howl cast I'm Jillian and this is my third episode with the truly wonderful Rubin J. Carbahall.

Rubin recently made his Broadway debut as John Lawrence and Philip Hamilton, but don't confuse

that with him being new to the role. Rubin has been with Hamilton for years on the road including his hometown of

LA and alongside Lynn and Puerto Rico. He's done this show over a thousand times so yeah he

knows what he's doing. The thing about Rubin is that he's always been so present in his journey to this point.

Last week he said that he loves being in the moment and enjoying the ride and that the trial and error is the best part.

And yes, that is totally true.

But it's also about Rubin being himself.

He talked a lot about seeing himself represented in In The Heights

and how that went against everything he was told about guys who look like him.

Like the typical untrue nonsense, right?

They can't be the main character, their story shouldn't be told, blah, blah.

So when he went on to be in that show three times, once is sunny and twice as Usnavi, I mean, it's life changing.

You heard about how he talks about his family and Jen the love of his life, like his culture and

where he comes from is so important to him. And in addition to that, and his

And in addition to that, it was impossible for him to not let his personality come through

during his many auditions, like when he told Alex Lacomore about the Mets game

or when he screwed up the words but made everyone laugh

with his job rule impression.
