Hey Heroes, James here. A quick note before we begin today's episode.

After this series aired, a listener reached out to us to let us know that we included an

ablest slur in this series. I'm going to repeat that slur here once, both to own up to our mistakes and for educational purposes.

One of the characters appearing in this series was named Dim Witt, which is one of many

ablest slurs that has a dark history, but is reflected in a lot of people's common vocabularies.

Mine included. That slur, along with a number of others, is something I grew up watching on cartoons,

and I, along with the guest who introduced this term to the show, had no idea of its history.

But one of the great things about growing up is you have an opportunity to become more sensitive and empathetic to people around you.

And your standards for what words are acceptable to say can change.

I want to apologize personally for my lack of knowledge on the history of this word.

As a player at the table, I certainly could have intervened and asked us to rename final cuts. I know over here at one shot

we're going to be doing everything we can to wean words like this out of our vocabularies

and make sure that our shows feel welcoming to everyone who listens.

In addition to editing this message onto episode one and a similar message on to future episodes in the series, we're

also going to be making an effort to cut this term out of these episodes entirely.

But that depends heavily on the availability of our editor, so it might take longer.
