Dan pushed the last low-hanging branch to one side and stepped out from the forest.

Mist hung thick and low, obscuring the water at first.

He strode forward, his breathing ragged, and looked out over the calm, silvery surface of the lake.

"'What do you think?' called Rasmus from an old tree stump far over to his right.

Dan felt a smile forming as he scoured the horizon for the limits of the water, failing to find it.
