He was first called before his continual crimes grew even more brutal, the I-5 bandit.

He cruised up and down the Interstate 5 freeway in Oregon, Washington, and Northern California,

stopping at various establishments where young women were working.

The suspect would rob the store and in some cases,

sexually fondle, young female employees and customers,

and also forced them to perform oral sex on him at gunpoint.

When the Bandits' Crime spree began in late 1980,

the police believed the robberies and assaults

were random crimes committed by multiple suspects.

Then in January of 1981, the I-5 Bandits crimes became more brutal and debatrous.

He sexually assaulted two young sisters just eight and ten years old.

Days later, he raped and shot two women multiple times in their heads. One would survive. In February, a

mother and teen daughter were both assaulted and murdered in their home. And now the suspect

of the I-5 bandit also began to be referred to as the I-5 killer.

As the weeks past the police started to notice similarities in the suspect descriptions

from crime to crime. The man was tall with dark wavy hair, sometimes wore a fake beard,

almost always disguised his appearance with some athletic tape or bandage or bandages placed

across the bridge of his nose. The obscured nose would become the I-5 bandit

slash killer's defining look. And when he sexually assaulted his victims he

almost never had vaginal sex with them, almost always oral, another signature detail.

Now authorities started to believe the dozens of recent robberies, assaults, rapes, and murders

along the I-5 corridor were carried out by the same man, the same serial rapist and serial killer.
