Summary

The Backpack Hunt Breakdown is a new series for July of 2023. Each week we will have a new episode in this series, featuring a new guest and a different backpack-style hunt. For each of these conversations, we use the following categories to break down the hunt and understand what led to the eventual success of the hunt... - PLANNING (the tag and hunt opportunity, scouting for animals/country/access, specific gear choices, etc) - MANAGING (your time and energy, when to stay or move, using terrain to your advantage, etc) - LIVING (water, food, clothing, shelter, comfort, and survivability in the backcountry) - HUNTING (locating the game, the stalk/approach, the shot opportunity, post-shot tracking, etc) - PACKING (pack out strategy and capabilities, meat care, etc) In this first episode, Mark & Steve breakdown Steve's solo elk hunt from this past fall. 0:38.8	In this series, as you saw in the title, it's called Backpack Hunt Breakdown.
0:43.8	We want to take a hunt and not just tell a story, but really break it down into all aspects of a backpack hunt.
0:51.7	When it comes to backpack hunting in particular, the hunt itself, the pursuit of the animal,
0:57.3	the shot, and those hunting moments, they're only part of the experience, they're only part of the adventure,
1:04.4	and that's only part of what ultimately leads to success.
1:09.1	When it comes to backpacking and living in the backcountry, you have to think through a lot of details.
1:13.9	You have to think through gear choices for the conditions.
1:17.3	You have to think about the simple basics of acquiring, securing, filtering water, and so much more.
1:24.0	Those are just a couple examples.
1:26.4	So in this series, we're taking different guests with different hunts,
1:30.6	and really breaking down the hunts according to some different categories that you'll hear about.
1:36.8	So even if the hunt itself is a different context than what you may be hunting or where you may be hunting,
