0:00.0	Hello and welcome to another episode of No Such Thing as a Fish, a weekly podcast this week coming to you live from the London Plaguea!
0:31.0	Sydney is also a very special episode for us. It is our 400th episode!
0:42.0	My name is Gash Lauer and I'm sitting here with Anna Toshinsky, Andrew Hunter Murray and James Harkin.
0:47.0	And once again we have gathered around the microphones with our four favorite facts from the last seven days and in a particular order, here we go.
0:55.0	Starting with fact number one and that is Anna.
0:58.0	Anna, my fact this week is that there's a 300 square mile section of America where all microwaves have to be kept in cages.
1:08.0	Are they living microwaves? Scary like Tee-Tee.
1:15.0	Violent, yes, some cryptomites spilled on them in the 60s and having to keep control of them.
1:21.0	No, this is, they're kept in specific cages, I have misled you there slightly, they have to be kept in Faraday cages and that's because it's in the quiet zone.
1:30.0	So this is that the whole quiet zone is actually about 13,000 square miles and across that radio transmissions and all electromagnetic transmissions are really restricted.
1:40.0	And within this little 300 square mile section which is right next to this green bank observatory which is a few giant telescopes that are really, really important for like seeing things from outer space.
1:50.0	They need to have just no interruption and that means no waves of any sort and that includes if you're microwaving a burger at two in the morning, that could convince them there's alien life out there.
2:02.0	So it's got to go in a Faraday cage.
2:04.0	I've had a few burgers at two in the morning that would convince me there's alien life out there.
2:09.0	It is because of this observatory although it also happens to be where the national security agency has one of its listening stations.
2:17.0	Oh, it happens to be in the same area. Wait, so what are they listening to? Are they listening to?
2:23.0	Well, they might need a lot of quiet so they can basically they're listening to any foreign transmissions that come into the eastern side of the United States.
2:31.0	Right.
2:32.0	So it helps them to be a bit quiet as well.
2:34.0	Interesting. Wow.
2:35.0	It's for anyone who wants peace and quiet really.
2:37.0	The NSA, these telescope guys, weird conspiracy theorists, quite a lot of them then.
