Today I am nominating Chief Judge Merrick Bryan Garland to join the Supreme Court.

President Barack Obama has nominated Merrick Garland, the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals

for the D.C., to fill in the seat

for Justice Antonin Scalia.

There had been a lot of talk that this would be a time for the President to diversify the

court, and he did not not so quick reaction around the table

watch let's start with you. I feel bad for Merrick Garland he's going to be a human

pinyata for the rest of the summer and I think that this was a very strategic choice by President Obama.

I'm sure there were a lot of behind the scenes back dealings with Republicans that

thought that he would get the best shot at nominating him.

He's seen as a moderate and is well respected from progressives already.
