Summary

Following the Norman Conquest, Matilda became the first Norman Queen of England, and while her husband secured his new Kingdom, she kept things ticking over in the Duchy.  Things were going pretty well, until her favourite son and her husband's relationship fell apart, putting her in the middle of a war that ripped the family apart, and threatened to destroy everything she had built.

or need a refresher, here's a condensed version. Surely after William and Matilda's wedding,

1:25.2

the King of England, Edward the Confessor, sent an extraordinary message to the newly married William.

1:30.2

Edward was childless and had no obvious heir, and thus the succession to the throne was unclear.

1:35.6

According to Norman sources, he offered the throne to William, naming him as his heir.

1:40.2

Quite why he would do this is not entirely clear.

and there were any number of men who had a stronger claim, though his marriage to Matilda did

bring William's English royal credentials up several notches. It is also contested within some
