With only hours left to get into the race. His team disassembled the engine, assessed the situation, put the engine back together and tried for a fourth time.

And you know what? They succeeded. That was the day Willie became part of racing and more importantly American history.

But why did it take so long for Willie to get the start he deserved? Where did he get his brash attitude? And how did that affect his career?

And how did he finally become the first African American driver to race in the Indy 500?

Yeah, I love the energy. It's crazy, right? I love that you told people about our relationship, gave some context to our discussion. Good stuff, right?

Yeah, why don't you catch the audience up on the past few episodes? Because this, as you know, and I know already, is the fourth part in a four part series of Ford V Ferrari.

Alright, so if you haven't listened to our previous episodes, you should probably go do that first before you listen to this.

But, yeah, you're coming in the fourth act. If you don't have time for that episode one, we learn about the life of one Enzo Ferrari and his rise to sports car, empire.

Very interesting guy. Episode two, we learned about Ford's failed first attempt at beating Ferrari after a poop show.

Yeah, they tried to buy Ferrari, then they tried to beat him, and they failed. Episode three, we learned about Mr. Carroll Shelby, another one of our favorite automotive figures in a little bit about his life.

And what he did to help Ford try to win again, they failed again. That's okay, because today we're going to learn about the 1966 running of the 12 hours La Maha.

I said 12, that's weird. We're going to learn about the 1964 running of the 24 hours of La Maha.
