Border security is home insecurity, which is national security.

It's not a partisan issue. It's not something we can separate out. It's core to being a sovereign nation.

Um, Joe made the argument earlier, sending the national guard to the border. How about the National Guard guards the nation?

I mean, it's right there in the name. On the other hand, I've heard heard some military people say this is not a good use of our

Military people. You're putting them in a no-win situation if something happens.

Bob, Bob, I thought we ought to talk to somebody who knows more about it at some point. Yeah. Yeah. And why not usher Mike lions in at this point.

Mike highly respected military analyst for CBS and one of our favorite guests. Mike, how are you, sir?

Hey, good morning, guys. Thanks so much for having me back. So let's talk about it. It's our pleasure. Let's talk about the National Guard being sent to the border.

Any initial thoughts on that? Yeah, not a good idea. I don't think that they're not prepared for that mission at all.

I think that, um, you know, I don't know what they do when they get there. They can't run around and capture anybody across the border.

They sure as heck can't cross the border themselves. Um, we don't know whether they're going to be armed or not.

You know, perhaps they'll bring some intelligence collection tools with them, you know, binoculars and things that are pretty simple like that.

But the bottom line is it shows that we've not invested enough in border patrol and what's going on here already. I mean, that's right.

Right. What it's kind of covering up. I mean, it's a sad comment there. But, you know, the president in classic pop off fashion, you know, this is, you know, fire ready aim.

I don't know what the word you want to use, but the bottom line is you just kind of pops off. He wants to do something down there.

And the military once again gets tagged to fix a problem that probably, you really can't fix.

Well, to be fair to Trump, other presidents have done this Obama and Reagan, where you, uh, did you think it was a bad idea?

The idea is, George W. Do you think it was a bad idea when they did it? Yeah, I mean, it's just, to me, it's just, it's just veiled in politics.

Um, what are they responding to? Is there a certain spot? Is there a certain area? You know, they tell me to play the military.

You got to think geography. Okay. What's the piece of land we're trying to capture, but defend, protect whatever the case may be.
