Summary

Do you see what we did there? Maybe not...

This episode begins with Kara detailing her impromptu, "red-eye" drive to Minnesota, and the sleepy aftermath. Then, you get a proper pet update with fun stories from both Des and Kara on their furry and not-so-furry animals. If you are watching the YouTube, you get a Boston sighting!

Kara and Des also give their takes on the Netflix documentary called The Crash about a teenager in Florida who was convicted of murder for intentionally driving her car into a wall, killing her boyfriend and his friend. There is so much to process from that tragic story, but at least one thing is clear: the parents of the convicted murderer were completely out of touch with the reality of the situation.

Of course, we do get to the latest running news. Des and Kara digest the new World Championship standards released by World Athletics, and the times are FAST. The objective from WA seems clear... to get more athletes into the event via the world rankings. BUT, are those rankings fair and legit or do they just reward the same group that can run fast? What are the implications for the sport and how does this trickle down to affect development in the NCAA as well?

Finally, they end with a top 5 where, among other shout-outs, Yared Nuguse gets some love for his 1500m win at the Diamond League meet in Rabat - a big win for him!

I was telling you before I'm a little bit wrecked, But other than that, I'm great. Yeah. Tell more. Okay. So you might notice I'm in Minnesota. And we were going to leave Friday morning. We're leaving at 5 a.m. We're packing up the car the night before everything, but like our backpacks. And we're packing up the car and I go, we should just leave right now. And Colt's like, yeah, yeah, let's do it. And Adam's like, I don't know. Like that's not a very good idea. And then we loaded everything up. So everything but like our backpacks in their bike rack. and then I'm like, well, what do you think? And Adam's like, well, I mean, I guess, like you guys seem to want to do this adventure. So instead of leaving at 5 a.m., we left at 9.30 p.m. Okay. And originally they were like, you sleep. Like, honestly, I'm a contact person, so I need my eyes to rest for a moment. And my glasses aren't as strong as my contact. So I don't feel

1:11.2

comfortable driving 80 miles an hour in my glasses. So I was like, okay, Colt's going to drive,

1:15.0

then Adam's going to drive. I'm going to take out my contact. You've got a third driver this year. I'm going to have, yeah, I'm going to have a little rest. But then I have this like fucking complex where I'm like, no, I have to stay awake. Like, I have to be able to talk to them. I can't sleep. Like,

1:26.7

that's not fair. So cold drove for like two hours. Adam drove for like two hours. And I'm like, no, I have to stay awake. Like, I have to be able to talk to them. I can't sleep. Like, that's not fair. So, Cole drove for like two hours. Adam drove for like two hours. And I'm like, wide awake. And Adam's like, Yanni. I'm like, you know what? I'm wide awake. Let me just, yeah. Just let me pop some contacts in and let me behind that bad boy. So I drove from like 2.30 to 8. But this is the crucial part. It's like Adam, he didn't really sleep. Cold slept a little. Adam only slept like a little bit. And then he was like, okay, yeah, let's stop in like 20 miles. But I was starting to like feel really heavy in my head. And here's the thing. I was like, no, I got to stop right now. Right. If you're going to do something

2:01.4

that's stupid, you have to be able to be like, no, I can't go another 20 miles. Like, I actually have to stop right now. So anyway, then we stopped and got some breakfast. And then Adam drove for a while. And then I drove again. And then Colt drove the last little stretch in. So it seemed genius. because we got here and it was like three o'clock. We stopped at the grocery store, which normally we have to do the day after.

2:20.5

We got here at three with groceries.

2:23.0

2:28.4

We have all been wrecked, even though we've been sleeping, great at night. But it's just like...

2:36.0

Yeah, as you should be. It's just like we... Buried yourself.

2:39.8

Yeah, like, what were we thinking? Adam's like, this is the worst idea. I was like, I'm so sorry.

2:44.4

What was the time difference?

2:47.1

It's not. It's just an hour difference, but it's just the fact that like, no sleep, you know.

3:08.2

And I was like, I'm fine. Like, I'm awake. I'm fine. Like my mom was like, you guys are going to be tired. I'm like, no, no, I'm fine. I'm fine. And then every day I'm like, no, that was dumb. But you basically decided to take the red eye. Yeah, exactly. We took the red eye.

3:09.1

Lessons learned.

3:08.2

Which I always say I'm too old for. You basically decided to take the red eye. Yeah, exactly. We took the red eye.

3:13.7

Lessons learned. Which I always say I'm too old for. But anyway, we're here. We made it out here safety. And the weather's been really nice. And it's super great to be here. I probably just
