Thursday quashed rumors that he was considering making changes to rules that

would make it more difficult to oust him or any other speaker from the leadership post

after Republican hardliners ABC News writing warned it was a red line he shouldn't cross.

Speaker Johnson in a statement posted on X

criticized the current rule allowing a single member of the House of Representatives to offer a motion to vacate the Speaker's

chair saying it has harmed the office and the Republican Party's majority in the House.

But he said that rule would stand for now.
