Summary

The running community was up in arms this past week over so many things, so naturally Des and Kara must talk about it! Yes, they get to the positive aftermath of the Atlanta kerfluffle, and then they dig into the NYC marathon charity debate, the LA marathon "photo finish," the course misdirection for the leader there, and of course, the 18-mile medal drama.

But first! They give you an extended life update where Kara talks about her tentative optimism about her own running (with support from her Lever), and Des shares the latest on training for the Sahara via sunny Florida.

All in all, we just want people to relax a little on the socials. It is ok to vehemently disagree with someone on there without wanting to ruin their life. Plus, we have to give USATF and the Atlanta Track Club for doing their best to resolve the issue at the US Half Champs. And, we have to give the LA Marathon kudos for doing their best to avoid cancelling a race where weather presented a real risk for some. Congrats also to Nathan Martin for his win at LA! It was an epic finish for a great guy!

Finally, you get a cameo from me - Chris McClung - the editor. Des and Kara invited me to talk about my first stage race at Moab Run the Rocks this past weekend. It was awesome, and I highly recommend it as a way to dip your toe into stage racing if interested. Not everyone has to jump straight to Marathon de Sables like Des!

you know, so I'm definitely excited about the break of just life, but I'm normally more

1:12.8

excited about the weather. But it's been so nice here. It's been weird. Do you feel like,

1:19.3

you're still a sports brown shorts person. Do you feel like you've reached an age ever,

1:23.8

like ever had this thought where you're like, maybe I need to throw on a shirt more often?

1:27.5

I went through a period where I was like a little embarrassed because I don't have the abs I used

1:32.9

to have. But all of a sudden one day I was just like, I don't care. I like running my sports bra.

1:42.2

I don't wear. It's not even that I don't think I'm not allowed to. I don't

1:47.6

wear shorty shorts anymore, which I would only wear shorty shorts before. I would never be caught in like a normal length short. And now I wear like the Brooks. I guess they're like five inch shorts, which before I would be, I would have been like, those are so long, who would wear those? And now I totally wear those. And I do like stuff that's a little bit

2:06.5

higher waisted now. Okay. You can kind of like tuck yourself in there. I don't think you need to,

2:12.9

but yeah, I go hang. There's like a, yeah, cover the belly button. I went through a like a very, it was pretty brief, but I would say like a season where I was like, I got hang. There's like a, yeah, cover the belly button. I went through the, like, a very, it was pretty brief, but I would say like a season where I was like, I can't take my shirt off. I don't look like I used to. And then finally I was just like, I don't, I love running my sports bra. And I just was like, fuck it. Look at me. I'm 47. This is what it looks like, peeps. This is it, yeah. Yeah. I don't even, I've thought about that recently.

2:37.3

I was like, maybe it's, I'm 47 this is what it looks like peeps is it yeah I like I don't even I've thought about that

morning and it feels like 90 plus here which is is the point. Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes I'm like, I also just don't want to die. So I'm sorry if I make you uncomfortable. Right. But no one's been like, wow, why would you wear that? I just was like, huh, I wonder if there's a point where I'm not supposed to feel comfortable. I don't know. I don't know what it's like to be 40. I think if there's a point that you think you're not supposed to feel comfortable, it's like a societal construct that's not real. Like, who gives a shit? Like, I see people way older than me and way younger than me. I think what's funny about me is I either like to really be layered up, Like I like it to be really cold or I want to be wearing barely anything and I've kind of always been like that.
