Hello and welcome to another episode of Sigma Nutrition Radio. My name is Danny Lennon. This is episode 392 of the podcast. And today I'm delighted

0:25.9

to be joined by Dr. Claire Pettinger, who is a registered dietitian, a public health nutritionist,

0:33.2

and an experienced educator who is based at the University of Plymouth in the UK.

0:38.3

Dr. Pettinger publishes research in the public health nutrition field,

0:43.3

specifically in areas related to food systems, food security, and then also sustainable eating or sustainable diets.

0:52.3

And that's specifically what we're going to focus in on today,

0:55.3

given that she is an advocate for promoting sustainability and then has published on ways that

1:01.8

nutrition and health professionals can hopefully do that going forward, given that to this

1:06.5

moment, there's probably not a whole lot of guidance in that area relative to the amount of interest

1:13.4

there is in this particular topic. And so we're going to dive into some of that throughout this

1:19.3

discussion. And I think there's going to be overlap with previous public health nutrition

1:23.7

episodes that we've had in the past before. So notably we did one on public health policy

1:29.5

versus personal responsibility. That was episode 363. We've also had people like Professor Barry Popkin,

1:36.5

Professor Karina Hawks, Professor Martin Carraher all on to talk about varying different topics,

1:42.1

but that all have some degree of overlap to think about how we

1:46.9

are consuming food as a general population right now. And then what are the steps forward,

1:53.3

both in terms of health, but then also, as we'll discuss today, sustainability. And that has,

1:58.8

in relation to both environmental sustainability but all for things

2:01.8

like food security and then also health inequality and so on so if you like those previous episodes

2:08.3

I think this will be another one that you will really enjoy and get all out of the show notes the

2:14.8

episode are going to be over at sigmautrition.com slash episode 392.

2:20.4

And there you'll be able to find links to any papers that we may mention throughout this
