I'm your host, Chad Carson. You can also call me Coach Carson. And the title of today's

episode is the one thing that the mega-rich don't have. I want to start off telling you a story by Kurt Vonnegut. He and a friend of his named Joseph Heller, and they were both authors of books, were at a party. And this party was hosted by a billionaire, and I believe he was a hedge fund trader, so traded a lot of money and made tons and tons of money every single day. And so Kurt, the person who told this story turned to his friend Joe and said, hey, Joe, how does it make

you feel to know that our host of this party only yesterday and one day made more money than your

novel Catch22 has earned in its entire history? So he paused for a moment and his friend Joe said,

you know what?

I've got something that that person will never have.

And Kurt said, really, what on earth could that be?

And Joe said, the knowledge that I've got enough.

I've always loved this story.

I've read it in a couple different books, seen it in different context.

But it's one of those mic drop type moments that I think gets at a really important truth to our own journey towards financial freedom. And I'm speaking for myself here. It's easy for me sometimes to put people up on a pedestal, people who I don't even know, but because they've been really successful with money, they've made a lot of money. They're a billionaire. Or in the real estate investing space, they're the one with the most

properties and the most wealth. It's easy to put them up on a pedestal. And there's no judging

here because I don't know all these people. But my impression sometimes that there's a gap

between the people who have the most and who have the most material

stuff and the people who are satisfied with their life who find fulfillment. And I really do think

it comes down to this concept of enough. I've written about it in both my books retire early

with real estate. I wrote about it in the small, mighty real estate investor. And in both

cases, I shared this graph that I borrowed from a book, one of my favorite financial books by

Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez called Your Money or Your Life. And this graph is called the fulfillment

curve. And I'll try to describe it here. But on this curve, on the x-axis, on the bottom, you have fulfillment or happiness.

And on the y-axis going up vertically, you have stuff or money.
