From the Buddhist perspective, what is it and how do we attain it?

A while back, a friend of mine named Tanner posted a simple question on his Facebook page.

He said, how do you define love?

I was surprised at how difficult it was to come up with an answer to that question.

I mean, I know what I think love is, but how do you actually define something that you experience without running the risk of making it a concept?

I'm not sure you can. St. Augustine was once asked about his understanding of time, when asked what is time he said,

I know, but when you ask me, I don't.

And I believe I know what love is, but the moment I try to define it, it becomes fixed and permanent.

And when you get down to it, concepts like love or time are not fixed, nor are they permanent.

And I believe we run into the same problem when we try defining enlightenment.
