Hello and welcome to episode 39 of Geek's Guide to the Galaxy.

Hi, this is John Joseph Adams. I'm the editor of several anthologies such as The

Improvable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Living Dead,

also the editor of Light Speed magazine and Fantasy magazine.

The entire first year of Light Speed magazine will be available in an anthology which comes out in November called Lightspeed Year 1. And I'm David Bark Early. I'm the author of many short stories including the Skullfacefaced city about an intelligent

zombie who organized as hordes of mindless zombies into an

unstoppable army. The story appeared in John's anthology of the

Living Dead too, which Simon Peg calls a must for any self-respecting zombie completest.

And speaking of Simon Peg, he's our guest today.

He co-wrote and starred in the movies Sean of the Dead, Hot Flows, and Paul, it's also appeared in Star Trek 2009 and Mission Impossible

And he just released his first book, A Memoir called Nerd Do Well, which focuses on the

childhood passions that made him into the nerd celebrity he is today.

Okay, so, you know, the inside cover of NERDUWell features doodles that you did as a kid and includes references to Velvet Thunder and Planet Peg.

Are there any stories behind any of those doodles?

Velvet Thunder was weirdly an idea that Nick Frost and me came up with very early on in our relationship.

It might have been our first collaborative effort because it dates back to about 1994 or five.
