What would Thomas Aquinas say about transgendarism?

Hello and welcome to Focus, the Catholic Cancer's podcast for living understanding and defending

your Catholic faith. There's so much talk about transgendarism these days, and it

finally occurred to us. So I wonder what Thomas Aquinas would have to say about that,

and so we decided we'll ask Atomist. What would Thomas have to say about our current

confusion regarding sex and gender? And so we have a really good

Thomas that we can call up and get a hold of, and that's Father Hugh Barber, and here's

what he had to say.

Father Hugh Barber, thank you for being with us.

Happy to be here. I want to talk to you about transgendarism and the whole kind of

this transgender movement, and it seems to me that so many people say, and I think they're

right when they say this, this gets right to the core of what it means to be a human being.

And when you get almost right to the core, close to the core.

Close to the core, okay. All right, maybe you can explain that more as we go, but when you think

about issues of what it is to be a human being, you think, well, what did Thomas Aquinas have

to say about that? Because he had a lot to say about these profound things.

Well, he did, but he said what he found in sacred scripture and in the tradition of the

revelation of the faith. So he found what's found in Genesis.

That God created man in his image. That's the real core.

That's the, that's the central image, right.

And then male and female God created him because man is a composite being of soul and body,
