Summary

Genesis 37-50, Romans 12:9,  Isaiah 5:20m Proverbs 2:14-15, Proverbs 8:13, Matthew 5:44, Ephesians 6:10-12, 2 Corinthians 4:7–9,  John 16:33 In today’s special episode, we talk about evil in our world but keep details age-appropriate and I point them to what God’s Word says about it. My children have been asking really good questions about this due to events and I thought we should address it. Using the story of Joseph, the cross of Jesus, and even a recent story, we discover four big truths: God can use what was meant for evil for good. We must hate what is evil and cling to what is good. We are called to love our enemies and fight with prayer, truth, and love. We have real hope because of Jesus. This episode may feel a little different than our usual storytelling, but I believe it will help children think biblically when they have questions about hard things. My hope is that today’s episode gives you a strong starting place and sparks meaningful conversations with your children. It’s designed to encourage you and offer a few practical tips as well. This episode does not include the regular Patreon activity pages, since it was created in response to recent events and outside of my usual schedule. I simply didn’t have time to prepare them—but I still wanted to make sure you had this special episode and the accompanying letter. Get the letter here.

My kids were asking me questions about this, and it made me realize that we need to talk about this and hear what the Bible has to say. So today, we will hear four truths from God's Word. This will be a little different than our normal episodes. It will not

0:48.6

be a story-like, but I think it will be really helpful. so let's go ahead and jump right in.

1:00.1

Truth number one. What was meant for evil, God used for good.

Let's begin with a story of Joseph from the book of Genesis. Do you remember him?

1:16.1

Joseph's father was Jacob, and Jacob had 12 sons. One of them was Joseph, who he loved very much,

and gave him a beautiful, colorful coat. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you remember him? And you know what?

1:33.4

Well, I'll have Joseph tell you a little bit of his story. Go ahead, Joseph. Well, my brothers,

2:11.6

I tried to serve faithfully, but I was accused of something I did not do, and I was thrown into prison. Even though I was innocent, I felt forgotten, and I felt alone. But I prayed, and I felt alone, but I prayed and I trusted that God was still with me.

2:25.1

Wow, Joseph, that sounds really hard, but was that the end of your story?

2:34.0

No, it's not.

2:36.4

God was with me all along, even in prison.

He gave me wisdom to understand dreams.
