I'm from Cleveland, Ohio.

I had a normal regular upbringing.

The most fun fact with my family is that I'm a descendant, Coretta Scott King, we're not distended.

She's my grandfather's niece.

And so she hyphenated in the 1950s.

And Martin married up.

That's a lot of people don't know that.

But to think about a black woman hyphenating in the 1950s, that's sort of new age.

And they met at the Boston Conservatory,

which she was getting her second master's degree in voice.
