You probably don't know their names. They're team managers or agents ensuring that their

athletes are in videos that you watch and that they're populating your feeds.

Sanders in the surfboard factory whose signatures you will never see signed on the bottom of your surfboard.

John Roseman has been quietly influencing the surf world in immeasurable ways by virtue of the fact that he's stewarding one of the greatest waves on the planet and has been for nearly as long as that wave has been being surfed.

And he doesn't do this single-handedly, nor is it an appointed role, but everybody seems to co-sign John's role as steward, from the recently

past island chief Truku to an endless array of visiting surfers to the island of Tavarua

in Fiji. And that includes any and all professional surfers of the past three decades.

And it actually may not be fair to claim that Rosemann's peripheral influence means that

he's nameless because if you discovered surfing in the era of the surf magazine, Roseman

has scored more magazine photos than perhaps any non-professional surfer ever.
