Well, it's a case of all quiet or quietish on the Eastern Front at the moment.

It seems fairly clear that the Russian offensive of the last weeks has fizzled out with little gain to compensate for all the dead bodies that destroyed equipment and the expended ammunition.

Is this the lull before the storm? Well, we'll have to wait and see. But the talk coming out of Kiev this week sounds very confident that their forces will be able to achieve much more when their turn comes than the Russians

have managed. The postmortem on the Russian lack of success seems to have started already

with reports of high-level sackings as the blame game begins inside the Russian military and

the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin has also been rattling his nuclear sabre again with the announcement that he will

be deploying battlefield nuclear missiles to Belarus sometime soon. But first, these dismissals,

unconfirmed but credible postings by Russian mill bloggers, are saying that Rustam Muradov,

the general commanding operations in Western Donets Oblast in recent months, has been

relieved of his duties. Now, he commands or commanded the Eastern Military District Forces,

which actually is one of the five big military districts in Russia and furthest east. So we're

really talking about Siberia. But the relevance to the war, of course, is the forces that naturally come under that district.

And with these forces, it must be said, he's had a notable lack of success.

There are also rumors that the commander of the Western military district forces,

Colonel General Evgeny Nikofov, is for the chop.
