Hello and welcome to Battleground Ukraine with me, Saul David and Julius Strauss. Well, Julius, we thought it was timely to talk a little bit about Hungary, not least because you have Hungarian heritage, Julius, but we've also got Baldi Giori with us. Good friend of the podcast, Budapest resident. And it's extraordinary, isn't it? There we were thinking that everything was really happening in Iran in the Middle East, but actually it's blowing up in Budapest at the moment. So just give us a little bit of context to this, Julius. What led up to all of this?

Yeah, I mean, these tensions have been simmering for a long time. But what particularly is happening in Hungary is that Victor Orban,

who's the leader of Hungary, the prime minister, has been in power for 16 years. He's an authoritarian

leader and he does not want to lose power. So we've got Hungarian elections coming up in about a month.

And one of the ways that he seems to think he can stay in powers by ratcheting up tensions

with Ukraine, which seems to play not particularly well with the Hungarian public, but better

than anything else that he's got to offer.

And the Ukrainians have been replying.

So in the last few days, we've seen a sort of a mildly tense relationship going to quite a nasty

spat between the two

countries. And given the context of the war and what's happening in the EU and the relations

between EU and Russia and Ukraine, it's significant. Orban famously or infamously has been playing
