Important Cinema Club. And today, we're talking about everyone's favorite monster that starts

with the letter G. It is Gamera. That's right. This week, we are the friend of all children.

This week, Gamera! This week they're sending us cheesy movies the worst we can find.

So you're singing that song because Gamra, to a lot of people around our age, is mostly known as

Mystery Science 3,000 fodder.

That's right.

Giant Monster, who is the poor cousin of Godzilla.

Y'all like Godzilla.

Who doesn't like Godzilla?

Well, what if I told you that there was another parallel monster, a rip-off monster, if you will, not by Toho Studios, but by the competitor Dai.

Yeah.

Competitor is probably a strong word.

They were a studio that did a lot of prestige productions.

They did Gates of Hell.

They did a bunch of Akira Kurosawa films.

But even the early Gamera films are not, let us say, big budget affairs.

And most of the Gamera films were made unapologetically for children.

They had lower budgets than the Godzilla films.

They were, what's a nice way of saying, tackier than the Godzilla films, which could get

pretty tacky indeed.

Well, I mean, it's arguable at a certain point.
