Mike Wisnant is a three-time Surf Expo shape-off champion. He won in 2011 and 2015, and then Surf

Expo pitted former champs against one another in 2016 for a master of masters shape-off, and Mike won that too. He is a lifelong resident

of Atlantic Beach, Florida and a small business owner there for 32 years, supplying the community

with WISNance surfboards. He's gregarious and jovial, but if you ask him, he'll tell you that

that's just masking some insecurities.

He's accomplished but humble.

And while he doesn't have international distribution or even national distribution,

if you've surfed around Atlantic Beach any time in the past 30 years,

you've likely seen Mike's surfboards.

And in this respect, I really think that he represents a good

95% of board builders in the world, quietly supplying their local community year in and year out,

building boards by hand for the style of waves that you are surfing regularly. And this is the

exact vein of conversation that I wanted to have with Mike

on air, to hear how he's navigated the wild changes in the industry in the past 18 months,

how to raise a family on board builder's wages, and also to hear directly from him about the

inherent benefit of hard work.
