Hi, I'm Olympian Kerry Tullifson and welcome to the C-Tolly Run podcast.

Today I chatted with not one but three women.

I chat with Joanna Garten, author of the newly released book called All in Stride,

A Journey and Running, Courage, and the search for the American

dream.

I also hear from two of the three athletes that Joanna writes about, Sergeant Elvin Cabet

and Sergeant Samantha Schultz.

Elvin is a professional runner and married to Shadrachir, not on this interview, but very

much a part of the book.

He is an Olympian and currently running professionally

for Nike. Sammy is the other athlete we hear from. Sammy is a retired Olympic modern pentathlete,

now coaching athletes and sharing her knowledge of sport. We discuss everything about how Joanna

picked these athletes to share their stories. We hear about Joanna's life in the sport of running,

what it's like for Elvin and Sammy to be written about, their lives now, how they got into the

sport, and how this book has changed each and every one of them. When reading about what this book is

all about, I thought I would share exactly how Joanna described it on her website. All in Stride is written about the inspiring stories of distance runners, Elvin Cabet,

and Shadric Kipchichir, and their determination to build meaningful lives as new American citizens.

Professional distance runners, Elvin Kabet and Shadr Kiptichichir grew up in rural Kenyan

villages.

Though their lives began in poverty, both were driven to reach their full potential,

to gain an education and make a difference.

And they would find their way to do just that through the high-pressured world of distance running.
