0:47.2

Hello, everybody, and welcome to Black Man Beyond. My name is Mark Bernardin. Hi.

0:55.2

And today I am honored by and it's just thrilled to get the chance to talk to a guy I've never met before. Except for last night.

1:07.2

We don't talk about that. No, no, I don't want to start about that. But we will talk. Was that too loud? Do if I get too close to get weird?

1:16.2

How is it sounding? Is it sound good? Good. Yeah.

1:22.2

Oh, Jeff Goldblum. Yes, yes. Love the shirt. Very Andy Warhol asked. Yes, yes. It's my birthday. It's my birthday.

1:34.2

No, it's not really. Okay. That's just whatever thing of Joe Jeff Goldblum and Thor Ragnaraka. I think it was pleasure barge.

1:39.2

Oh, right, right, right, right. And the, the, the, yeah, you know, you know the button he presses to make everything fun.

1:48.2

So we got really dirty, really fast. Yeah, what you did. I mean, you're totally playing PG over here. Yes, of course.

1:55.2

And Prince George. I love the podcast that begins frightfully off the rails from the job.

2:07.2

But no, we, we first sort of came into the same sphere. I think about two years ago in the height of the pandemic, I had started out of a fit of kind of futility and feeling useless and somewhat bereft of purpose.

2:21.2

I started this charity initiative called the plague nerdologs, which was I had a bunch of friends who were actors who could not do the thing that they do, which is perform.

2:32.2

And, and I'm nerd and they're all nerds and we all love nerd stuff. And there are certain passages and speeches and monologues in the nerd content that we all love.

2:43.2

And I was like, what are some of these actors could perform these things? And I inspired a bit by the BBC had done a bit, I think it was for like Shakespeare's 300th birthday or whatever it was.

2:53.2

They did a bunch of Shakespeare's soliloquies and they would get like Chiuatel Egeo for it, Damian Lewis and like the finest British actors at work to do, you know, Hamlet and King Lear.

3:05.2

And, and I think the one that I think Damian Lewis is was from Julius Caesar, which is beautiful and gorgeous. But it's just them like in a camera and just down the barrel, just doing performance.

3:18.2

I was like, yeah, it's like, but what if we did that for like nerd stuff? Yeah, you know, what if what if we could get somebody to do the, you know, a great speech from Plano the Apes or from Game of Thrones or from, you know, Superman or from the Marvel Universe, whatever it was, just find the things that we all kind of love.

3:36.2

And reach out to some actor friends and like, yeah, sure, I'm not doing anything. You know, I've been self-tapping auditions so I got a camera and I got a backdrop and I'll just lean into it.

3:45.2

And, you know, we did it two cycles. We did one for no kid hungry to raise money for, especially in the Los Angeles area, kids who could not go to school.

3:55.2

And there were lots of kids who would count on the food that they would get at school because they just didn't have the money at home to feed three meals a day.
