July 24th, 1984, started off as a perfectly normal day for Alan Lafferty and his family.

He woke up early, he went to work, left his wife Brenda and his 15-month-old daughter, Erica, at home.

But then that evening, he returned home to a bloodbath to a

husband and father's worst nightmare. His family had been butchered.

Brenda and Erica were both dead, their throats cut in an extremely violent attack, their home

covered in blood from Brenda's struggle with her killer.

Alan was initially the prime suspect, right, the husband so often the perpetrator in

cases like this, and when police arrived at the scene he was

covered in blood but soon he was able to convince the police that he knew two people who

wanted to kill his wife his own brothers Ronald and Dan Lafferty.

And Alan turned out to be right.

Ron and Dan, along with two accomplices,

had committed their murders and then fled the state.

Why did they do it?

Why did these men brutally murder their sister-in-law and their baby

niece? Ronald and Dan did not kill Brenda over money or an affair. This was not a crime of

passion. Ronald Lafferty was insane, at least in a religious sense. He truly seemed to believe

that he had received a vision from God telling him that Brenda and baby Erica

needed to be removed.
