Summary

In this special episode, we pay tribute to the late Dr. Sue Johnson, a beloved relational teacher, therapist, author, and the pioneering innovator behind Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Her work has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of relationships and I recently had the privilege of hosting her on the podcast. To honor Dr. Sue and her significant contributions to relationship therapy and education, we've put together some of the most impactful moments from that episode. I am profoundly grateful for Dr. Sue's work and her lasting influence. Thank you for the gift of your voice, your presence, and your loving heart in this life, Dr. Sue. Hello and welcome to another episode of the Mark Groves podcast. Today's episode I didn't expect to record because recently I was so caught off guard by the news that Dr. Sue Johnson has passed away.

I grew up in an English pub, which is probably the very best place that you could ever choose to learn about relationships.

0:23.0

And for me, it was just so fascinating to listen to this emotional music.

0:28.6

Attachment pins down the specific responses that shape a loving bond.

0:34.9

And I wanted to do a podcast episode, a special one, on her and her legacy, because she had such a

0:45.1

profound impact not only on me, but she has on therapists, on coaches, on anyone who is

0:52.4

interested in learning more about relationships, her books are

0:57.4

like seminal pieces of work. Her book Hold Me Tight and her book Love Sense. They both had such a

1:04.8

profound impact on me and really had me make sense of why I do what I do,

1:11.7

and that's not a pun on the title Love Sense.

1:15.6

But recently we had Dr. Sue Johnson on the podcast,

1:18.7

and we wanted to do an episode where we share some of the best clips from that episode

1:26.1

in honor of her life and in honor of her legacy.

1:31.5

I always think to myself when people of that level of significance in terms of the impact they

1:38.0

have on how people love when they pass, that it really is our duty to honor their legacy by really loving at our greatest capacity

1:49.5

and really living all out and honoring the knowledge that they have left behind through their

1:57.0

own pains, their own sufferings, their own challenges, and just their passions to want to

2:03.5

deeply understand the human condition, human connection. And really, we all know that at the end

2:10.0

of the day, that's what matters in our life. So it is with the deepest sadness that we say

2:16.9

goodbye in this earth experience to Dr.

2:19.9

Sue Johnson and really honor her legacy and the things that she's taught us. And without further

2:28.8

ado, here's some of the favorite clips from that episode, which was so recent.
