Summary

This week we learned that Lucasfilm has parted ways with Colin Trevorrow, who was previously slated to write and direct 2019’s installment in the “Star Wars” saga, and realized that the absolutely dumbest way to react to the news would be to draft a bunch of possible replacements. So in this episode we present our suggestions to fill that director’s chair, from the real to the ridiculous to the ones from beyond the grave! Along the way we take time to discuss the challenges of finding ways for creative people to mesh with big studio-controlled franchises. And all without a single “Star Wars” spoiler!

0:14.3	I'm your host, Jason Snell.
0:15.4	This is going to be a little timely, a little weird, a little strange.
0:19.1	So as we're recording this, it's just been a day or two since the Lucas film,
0:24.4	the Star Wars Brain Trust, announced that the director of Star Wars Episode 9,
0:28.9	not the episode that's coming out later this year, but the one after that,
0:33.7	is not going to be who we thought it was.
0:36.1	We thought it was going to be the talented director of such works as Jurassic World,
0:44.4	which if you've seen it, I'm just going to say, is really bad, like, epically bad.
0:52.3	Colin Trevereaux has been relieved of his duties.
0:55.5	Perhaps it was mutual.
0:56.8	I think it was a Hollywood mutual thing
0:58.2	where they didn't agree
0:59.6	because he wanted to do things
1:01.1	and Lucasfilm did not want to do those things.
1:04.0	And so he was sent away
1:05.1	and they don't have a director
1:06.2	for the ninth episode of Star Wars.
1:09.2	And we thought, hey, you know, it would be a really stupid idea?
1:13.0	What if we did a draft of potential directors for the next Star Wars movie?
