Summary

Today we are joined by The 7 Virtues Founder-Extraordinaire, Barb Stegemann. Barb is also a best-selling author, motivational speaker, one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, and has been a recipient of Ernst &Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award. Her background prior to founding The 7 Virtues is a unique one, as it had nothing to do with fragrance. She discusses the inspiration behind and process of launching the brand, how she got it into Sephora, The 7 Virtues' much larger social mission (and success), why your vanilla fragrances *should* be browning, and the mantra that helps her achieve it all (one which I plan to frame above my bed), “Get mad, take a bath, have a nap.”

FRAGS MENTIONED:

Frapin Laskarina, Diptyque Volutes, Ramon Monegal Cherry Musk, JusBox 14 Hour Dream, Akro Dark, Hermetica RoseFire, The 7 Virtues Orange Blossom, Dana Love’s Baby Soft, The 7 Virtues: Santal Vanille, Lotus Pear, Vanilla Woods, Grapefruit Lime, Patchouli Citrus, Vetiver Elemi, Rose Amber, Jasmine Neroli

Welcome to the perfume room. It is Valentine's Day today. I am recording this. The day before the episode comes out. My scent of the day today is actually quite chaotic because this morning I woke up, looked at my dresser, and just started spraying every single perfume that I had because I was like, what do I want to wear tonight? Who do I want to be? Perfume is like a wig for me, you know? Like I can like put a different one on and I'm like a totally different energy. Needless to say, none of the perfumes I'm wearing are what I'm going to wear tonight.

0:37.9

I still haven't figured that out. But let me tell you the five fragrances I currently have on.

0:42.6

I do not recommend this combo. It is a little overwhelming. However, it doesn't smell bad. So,

0:47.4

I mean, maybe I'm on to something. Okay. The first one I'm wearing is one that I just

0:52.3

discovered last week when I was in the Kintissants's offices, and that is Frepan Lascarina, which is an amazing, gorgeous, sensual, sexy

1:01.8

fragrance. It's got notes of incense and tobacco and iris and pear and rose. And if you're

1:06.8

listening to that being like, what a combo. Yes, exactly, what a combo.

1:11.6

Somehow the pear and the iris and the rose give it this amazing soft delicacy, right?

1:17.2

But then there's tobacco, which gives it such a beautiful, I mean, it really smells like a tobacco fragrance,

1:24.3

and it has a little bit of like a dryness to it.

1:26.8

And then there's incense that deepen it

1:28.5

and somehow with this combination of everything, even though when I think of tobacco sense,

1:33.4

I sort of think of like a dryness that comes with it, there's something a little bit saccharine

1:37.8

and syrupy about this and I know this is weird but I feel like it's relevant because

1:42.8

last week I was telling you guys

1:44.8

about how when I first smelled Dipique Volute, it cast a spell on me. And I was instantly in love

1:50.1

and I got this honey, tobaccoy, syrupy iris that I just adored. And when I smelled it again,

1:56.1

it smelled totally different. And what I will say is that what Lascarina is feeling like for me reminds me

2:02.8

of what I initially felt when I tried Dipique Volute. So I don't know what's going on there,

2:09.3

but I absolutely adore this fragrance. And if you are someone who likes a tobacco scent,

2:14.6

you must try Lascarina. It is best in class, so beautiful and so delicate

2:20.1

at the same time. Okay, real quick, the other fragrances that I am wearing are Ramon Monagal,
